Mark J. Bertler

Mark鈥檚 career has spanned over 40 years in public health, human services and non-profit and association management.

He has had served in both board and staff leadership positions in a variety of organizations.

While still in college, he began his career as a community organizer in Oakland County, Michigan developing youth recreation programs, crisis centers, free clinics and programs for runaway and homeless youth. His interest in public policy eventually took him to the state capitol in Lansing where he became the first lobbyist for the state network of Planned Parenthood affiliates and then served as the first Executive Director of the Michigan Association for Local Public Health representing Michigan鈥檚 network of local public health departments where, among other projects, he participated in the development of one of the nation鈥檚 first local public health accreditation programs.

His national activities have included work with the American Society of Association Executives, Public Health Informatics Institute, the National Association of Local Boards of Health, the National Association of County and City Health Officials and the Institute for Credentialing Excellence.

He has managed organizations with from 3 to 1,500 employees with budgets ranging from $500,000 to $130,000,000. His consistent focus has been in improving policies and practices and building sustainable organizations. He is committed to building and sustaining high performing teams while emphasizing continuing education and career development.

He is also active with the California Society of Association Executives where he is a current member and Past Chair of the Legislative Committee.

In addition, he has served, as a public member, on the board of the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center, the Institute for Credentialing Excellence Board of Directors, and the Accreditation Services Council.

A firm believer in community service, Mark serves as AARP鈥檚 District Liaison and as a member of the Measure GS Citizen Oversight Committee in his hometown of Santa Monica, CA Mark continues to serve as a mentor, coach and guide for a variety of professionals and organizations.
