What advice or mindset helped you the most at the start of your career?

I stayed open-minded. Starting my career, I was not afraid to look outside the box. My first HIM job was at a state prison. It gave me the foundation and fundamentals to succeed in the profession today.

How can new graduates stay connected and engaged in the profession?

New graduates can actively participate in their state Component Association or local regional HIM association. This involvement offers an excellent opportunity to network with other HIM professionals and stay informed about the latest developments in the field.

What excites you most about the future of health information?

As technology continues to advance, the role of Health Information professionals will remain indispensable. Our future holds numerous opportunities for collaboration across various sectors within healthcare, ensuring that our expertise continues to be vital and impactful.
